Workshop Saturday October 6th Using the hake brush

Today we looked at the work of the late Ron Ranson an artist who inspired me and many others through his books and demonstrations. He was a lovely man and I always remember him running down his driveway to welcome a coach trip I organised many years ago now to his studio in the Cotswolds. He painted only with a hake brush, rigger and flat brush so it was quite a challenge for us all copying an exercise from  of his books using mainly the hake and rigger. I do recommend the small size if you want to buy one….it is a very useful size to use as a wash brush for subjects like skies and large foregrounds even if you find it difficult to use for foliage and buildings. It holds a lot of water and takes a lot of practise to get used to it! Here are some results from the morning …well done everyone.
