We worked on a step by step snow scene which I wrote for Leisure Painter a few years ago. I did encourage people to adapt it if they wished and we had my original photograph to work from as well. It is a view in Dinefwr park. The important thing was to try and achieve a feeling of depth and we did this partly by working wet into wet in the distance with harder edges in the foreground. Only two colours were used…ultramarine and burnt sienna. Most people worked on stretched paper. The colour reproduction in the magazine was not very good…it was too blue. However, as you can see from the paintings here, everyone achieved some lovely cool, warm and neutral greys.
