Saturday 6th of October…my Start Art group with four new members did a good job on an autumn scene. We did our own interpretation of an exercise from the book ‘ The big book of painting nature in watercolour’ by Ferdinand Petrie. I can really recommend it. Nine pictures by the group…one got away!

Achieving recession in a painting
We continued our work inspired by the artist Aubrey Phillips painting big skies and putting depth into our seascapes. Preliminary work was done on large sheets of cartridge paper and then we moved on to watercolour paper..
Last month we had a go at painting bridges and today did an exercise of mine with moving water and rocks.
Sometimes I work on small studies of a subject with a view to doing a larger painting.
