Sunshine and hail showers near Abercrave

Sunday we braved the weather and drove over the mountain to Ystradgynlais, on through Abercrave and visited Henrhyd waterfall at Coelbren.
The waterfall is signposted from the main road but we nearly missed it! There is quite a steep walk down into the gorge and then over a footbridge before walking up again to the falls. It is very accessible and the footpaths are well maintained. It’s a spectacular fall of water and if you  are brave enough you can walk behind….we weren’t and didn’t!  It was cloudy and we were caught by hail showers but when the sun came out I got some photos and a few quick sketches…..just notes really but I worked out a composition I think for a painting.

After looking at different view points I settled on this one.

Bare bones of the composition....I liked the pattern of shapes and will work to keep those in the painting.

Wood Sorrel was so pretty growing out of a mossy log.

Dylan didn't much enjoy the steep steps nor the hail!

We were there

Saw both birds but couldn't get good photos

Why is this very boring picture of interest!?

Sorry we lost the light at this point.

More to follow.

  1. Many years ago I walked behind the waterfall. It was exhilarating. You must try it one day.

Glad you enjoyed your day and got the photographs and sketches you desired.
