Kidwelly Quay is quite a special place for me both as an artist and a bird watcher. It is not always especially picturesque and can be pretty bleak on wintery days but always, no matter what the weather, has something new to offer. The light can be pretty spectacular and the estuary habitat is home to many species of birds. There is a lovely canal walk there and more often than not we spot a kingfisher flying along the banks or perched on the reeds and overhanging trees. Today was no exception. We counted about 32 different species of bird on the estuary, in the marshes and along the canal- A fantastically diverse wildlife habitat in such a relatively small area.
