Achieving recession in a painting

Very often we want to depict recession in a landscape painting. Recently I continued work on this topic with my Start Art group of beginner watercolourists. We used a photograph of mine of Carreg  Cennen showing the hills behind. We kept detail to a minimum and concentrated on building up thin laters of watercolour. Recession can be achieved by several means including using paler greyed out colours in the far distance and building up tone and warmth in the foreground. We also worked on wet into wet soft skies and mid distance   think everyone did a grand job.
